Affordable Dentist?
Main Post:
Hey all.
Without going into deep details. I'm very cash strapped atm so I'm in the look out for an affordable Dentist! One that does a payment plan maybe?
Any suggestions?
Thanks in Advance!

Are you eligible for the SA dental scheme? Search that in Google and you'll find out. They will put you on a ridiculously long wait list, but you'll only end up paying about $50 or so in gap whenever you see the dentist.
Anybody know a good, affordable dentist in London?

I don’t have a crazy amount of work that needs done but I do have some and as expensive as dentists are I’d like to fix my issues well and not clean out my bank account to fill a cavity.
Any suggestions?

Apparently Fanshawe has a state of the art trading facility with certified dentists overseeing everything and offer services at a very reasonable price. Hopefully someone can offer the website or phone number to make an appointment.

Remember that no matter where you go the cheapest option may not be your best option. Make sure you understand what services you are getting, the dental cleaning is just one part of the procedure. Quotes will also vary depending on the pet & the severity of the dental disease as this will affect anesthetic time & vet time. In addition the severity of the dental disease can sometimes be difficult to assess based on a pre-dental exam alone. Sometimes disease is hidden beneath the gums and the extent of the disease is only revealed during the dental or by X-rays. So while you might get some ideas about clinics with lower quotes from individuals in this thread dentals are by no means a standardized price, one size does not fit all.
There are some things that you will want to consider in addition to the dental cleaning itself. For example, does their quote include pre-anesthetic bloodwork? is your pet going to be on IV fluids? will they have warming? what do they have for anesthetic monitoring equipment? do they have/perform dental radiographs? who is performing the cleaning? the extractions? is there a veterinary technician performing anesthetic monitoring at all times or is it the vet performing both roles? how skilled is the veterinarian performing the dental (e.g. typical family veterinarian with some CE training in dentistry vs. veterinarian who has taken additional advanced dentistry training like Woodlands Veterinary Hospital vs. board certified veterinary dentist like Alberta Veterinary Dentistry)? (also worth considering what skill level best reflects the needs of your pet) What is the aftercare like (do they have someone monitoring the pet while they recover from anesthesia)? Do they offer free rechecks or are you expected to pay?
So one vet might quote you $500 for the cleaning (may or may not include extractions) but they don't offer IV fluids, they don't have a technician monitoring anesthesia at all times, or maybe they don't offer dental radiographs. Whereas another vet will quote you $1000 (perhaps higher with extractions $1500-2000) but will offer all those additional (and often essential services). For example, there is no point in getting a dental where you don't get dental radiographs because most of the disease is hidden under the gums that is only visible through x-ray. A perfectly healthy crown might have completely rotten roots and should be extracted. You won't be doing your pet any favours leaving that diseased tooth behind.
Finally don't forget that a dental with extractions is no simple or quick procedure. It can take a few hours to perform extractions & cleaning. During this entire process you may have 2 to 3 staff members working directly with your pet. You also have all the specialized equipment that goes with a dental, as well as the specialized training. While I understand the need to find a quote that fits within your budget its important to understand that this is a very skilled procedure and the cost should and will reflect that. Clinics in the city have higher overhead, you may find better quotes from clinics outside the city but still make sure you understand what they are charging for and the services that you are getting for your money.
I guess what I am trying to say is the quote is just one part of the research process, you should be asking more about the procedure itself and what it entails to get a full understanding of what the clinic is providing.
Edit: Also many clinics have dental months where they may provide a small discount. Depending on urgency you may consider waiting for a dental month promotion to save some extra money.
How much does the dentist usually cost you?
Main Post:
I got a filling recently and the bill was $235, after private health insurance the gap i had to pay was $135. This felt pretty steep to me, and i think its kinda strange that seeing a gp is free but going to the dentist always costs a bomb, even though I have supposedly top cover health insurance. How much do you usually pay at the dentist?

I have a got a story about dentists. I had to go to a dentist for an unrelated thing and the dentist informed me that I had more than 10 cavities and that it would require major work. He gave me a quote of about $3.5k!
Now that is more than I make in a month so I started talking to him about staggering the treatments over 2 pay periods or something of the sort. I mentioned this to a friend of mine and she mentioned her dentist in Malaysia and how cheap it was. As a joke I started doing the numbers and it seemed considerably cheaper to fly to Malaysia and get it done there.
So that is what I did, the dude cleaned my teeth, performed another x-ray and informed me that I only had 2 cavities that requirred filling. He performed the necessary work, I paid the dude $100.
I also stayed in Malaysia for a week, I got an awesome vacation, the flights, the hotel (stayed in a homestay) cost me 2.2k which I paid using a credit card and paid off in full when I came back.
The gist of it is, shop around with dentists, not necessarily internationally, but there are some dentists that will try and make a quick buck off you.
How do you afford dental care in Australia?
Main Post:
Hello fellow Aussies!
So here's the problem. My teeth are in pretty bad shape and I know I need to have some root canals and cavities filled and may even need to get some of the back ones removed, namely my wisdom teeth.
I've been doing research and it just seems the cost is far too expensive and I don't know how I will ever afford it. I work a pretty standard job and don't make a great deal of money after paying for the car, rent and bills and I'm not entitled to free dental through Centrelink.
So here is my question - how do you afford dental care? What are my options? I've looked into private health insurance and I'm pretty confused by it all and the fine print for most plans doesn't really cover high end dental surgeries.
I would really appreciate any advice, especially from people who have gone through a heap of dental treatments. Also, contacts and insurance recommendations would be very much appreciated as well!
Thank you all!

Ever though of going abroad for good quality dental care?
You could try Indonesia (Jakarta), Malaysia or more expensive Singapore.
Get an Air Asia flight to Kuala Lumpur (cheap prices) and the dental care in Malaysia is the same quality as what you would find in Oz but much, much cheaper
Medical tourism is on the fastest growing industries nowadays as well.
CBD Affordable Dentist Recs needed! My teeth thank you
Main Post:
Hi everyone, I'm looking for a decent and affordable dentist in the CBD. Finally took the plunge to get braces and was told I need to get 3 fillings and some minor preventative treatments as well that will cost me $1300. (On top of the consult and cleaning and needing all 4 wisdom teeth out 😭). I'm already paying $10500 for braces as well.
This will be out of pocket - I'm ok with the braces costing an arm and a leg but all the other additional things are costing me the rest of my very few remaining limbs.
Summary: good affordable dentist recs in the CBD needed please! Also maybe even an affordable one for wisdom teeth 🙌

A Better Smile Dentist in the CBD did my wisdom teeth under twilight sedation for half the price of what two other dentist surgeons quoted me.
I also found that they didn't request I get unnecessary fillings, just advised where there was the beginning of tooth decay so I can pay particular attention to those areas to try and prevent further decay and gave me a fluoride tooth paste.
Half my tooth is gone. Do you know any affordable dentists in CBD?
Main Post:
Chewed a bit hard on the fork. I thought it broke. The fork was fine.....but half my tooth is gone. I probably ate it. Damn!
I am currently looking at
- smile.com.au - which is a network claiming reasonable prices.
- Sydney CBD Dental - which is a Bupa members first.
Looking for reasonably priced place. My insurance doesn't cover ancillary expenses. Any suggestions, recommendations.
P.S - I don't want to end up like him (https://youtu.be/iQzRZBWuLhE)
